Tired of not being able to find high quality lingerie and luxury bedroom accessories, Eloise Monaghan set out to inject a sense of sensuality into the bedroom. “Honey Birdette was created by women for women, to offer an experience unlike any other lingerie retailer. We serve sensuality on a silver platter, with a side of class, humour and depth. Honey Birdette has a highly engaged and devoted customer base across the world. Now is the time to take it truly global.” Honey Birdette is a luxury lifestyle brand created by Eloise Monaghan. The first boutique opened in 2006 with a unique offering of high-end lingerie and premium bedroom accessories. Bold, innovative and just a tad naughtier than you would expect, Honey Birdette quickly became the most talked about lingerie brand in Australia. In 2011, Honey Birdette entered into a strategic partnership with BB Retail Capital (BBRC), one of the largest retail groups across the Asia-Pacific region. Between 2012 and 2015 Honey Birdette opened 40 new boutiques, taking the total to 45 in Australia and an online business that is currently over 10% of revenue and rapidly growing. Honey Birdette will open its first international boutique in Covent Garden, London in European summer 2016 and is currently reviewing opportunities in other premium global locations across Europe and the United States.

After working as an IT and management consultant, Michael decided it was time to combine his expertise and decades of experience in ‘bargain hunting’ with his research skills to help other Aussies get a better deal and combat the rising cost of living and especially the ‘Australia Tax’.

He created Spending Hacker as a reference resource for Australians on how and where to find the best deals for everyday products and services we all need and use.

Nowadays, Spending Hacker is showing thousands of Aussies that:

1. You don’t have to pay top dollar in order to get top quality; and
2. Cheapest in absolute dollar terms doesn’t always equal best value.

A senior, experienced and passionate who strives to put the customer at the centre of every decision that is made. Starting out in the UK and working for retailers such as Marks and Spencer, Next and WHSmith in a variety of roles from stores, to planning to supply chain, Adrian moved to Australia nearly ten years ago and continued his career with senior roles in Myer and Borders and most recently as CEO of APG and Co, owners of iconic Australian brands Sportscraft, Saba and JAG. He has also spent time working ‘over the fence’ as a retail strategy consultant for Accenture and IBM, and still runs and manages his own consulting practice Empirica Consulting. He is fascinated by the impact on traditional business models of the increasing disruption in the retail space, as landlords become retailers, FMCG players become retailers, and consumers know everything and expect everything from their chosen retail partner. The market is going to change ever more rapidly, with driverless vehicles, the internet of things and increasingly complex digital ecosystems continuing to evolve and challenge what we know as do as retailers. CEO
Dean Taylor
Cracka Wines
CEO

With several successful ventures under his belt, Dean Taylor is a start-up and digital veteran

Originally an architect, his first foray into business was in 1999 setting up Wine Ark

While ostensibly a bricks’n’mortar business providing offsite climate-controlled storage for wine lovers, he saw a huge opportunity to leverage the emerging internet to allow his clients to not only manage their collections but also trade wine as easily as stocks and shares.

Meant to be a 1 or 2 day a week side venture, it grew quickly into a national business with a dozen storage sites around the country managing over $250m of wine.  Looking for ways to better service his captive audience (and drink more wine)Dean went on to launch The Cellar Club, an ultra premium wine club that pioneered the use of e-commerce within the wine industry.

With his appetite whet for the potential of online retail, in 2010 he launched Crackawines.com.au – a game-changing D2C marketplace designed to provide wine producers the ability to sell directly to wine consumers via an ever-expanding number of digital channels.

Now representing over 1,000 wine producers across a customer base of over 250,000 wine lovers, Crackawines.com.au is one of the key independent players within the online wine space.

Leveraging their IT platform and strong industry relationships, Crackawines.com.au has established two other online wine sites called My Wine Guy and Winegrowers Direct, each servicing distinctly different market segments. In addition they own and produce wine under about fifty different brands, sourcing fruit from vineyards in Australia and New Zealand.  Dean puts Cracka’s success down to the WIN:WIN nature of their D2C operating model which delivers consumers competitive prices while generating higher margins for brand owners than through traditional channels.

Leveraging their success in Australia, Dean is now focused on expanding the Cracka into other key international wine markets, allowing their Australian and New Zealand winery partners to sell globally via their D2C platform.

CEO & Founder
Beauty advocate Kate Morris, CEO and founder of Adorebeauty.com.au, started Australia’s first beauty e-commerce site in 1999 from a garage in Melbourne at the age of 21. Starting with just $12,000 and two little known cosmetic companies on board, Adore Beauty has grown to more than 160 brands, 12,000 products, and annual turnover of around $25m. A university job on the cosmetic counters led Kate to realise that most women found department stores intimidating and unpleasant. Kate was inspired to create a disruptive beauty shopping experience that empowered consumers. In May 2015, Adore Beauty announced an investment from retail giant Woolworths Limited. Kate was awarded the Business Innovation Award for Victoria at the Telstra Business Women’s Awards in 2014, and was inducted into the Australian Businesswomen’s Network Hall of Fame in 2015. Adore Beauty has also been scooping up accolades, making the lists for Deloitte’s Tech Fast 50 Australia and Tech Fast 500 Asia-Pacific for the last three years in a row, as well as the SmartCompany Smart50 in 2016.
